Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma is a group of diseases that damage your eye’s optic nerve. It can affect one or both of your eyes. The most common form is primary open-angle glaucoma. The damage caused by glaucoma can result in loss of vision or blindness. Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness for people over 60 years old. It is estimated that approximately 3 million people age 40 and older have glaucoma. Approximately half of these people are not aware they have the disease due to not feeling any symptoms. Early detection through a comprehensive dilated exam and treatment is essential to prevent vision loss from glaucoma.

Dr. Buglisi performs laser surgery as a treatment for glaucoma. In the office, he performs trabeculoplasty to help reduce eye pressure in open-angle glaucoma. He performs Iridotomy in the office for patients that have angle-closure glaucoma.

Dr. Buglisi is an experienced surgeon with iStent — a tiny device used as a drainage tube that is usually implanted at the time of cataract surgery for those patients with glaucoma.
